Growing need for telecommunications information has resulted in the establishment of a specialized Center at George Washington University. Used by students and faculty from several programs at George Washington University, the Center also supports research inquiries from other corporate, governmental and academic libraries in the Washington, DC area.

Journals and services of significant value to maintaining current awareness of trends and developments in telecommunications are described under the following headings: “Telecommunications Policy — General,” “General Telecommunications Industry and Market Information,” “International Communications,” “Law and Legislation,” “Bibliographies,” “Data Communications,” “Electronic Mail/Publishing,” “Mobile Communications,” “Telephone,” and “Satellite Communications.” “Broadcasting and Cable” journals and services were covered in the Winter 1983 issue of Library Hi Tech.

This bibliography concentrates on literature sources currently published (as in the case of periodicals) or generally published during the past three years. Annotations are provided for periodicals and books, noting strengths of the sources. Selected journal articles, including several pre‐1980 citations, are included without annotations.

This chapter explains the background of the book and begins with an introduction of Jafar Jafari’s tremendous contribution to tourism knowledge creation and education. This is followed by a report on the content analysis of 573 tourism education related articles published in the past 10 years. Results indicated the need for philosophical discussion about the nature of tourism education and the popularity of teaching and learning approaches as a research topic. The two main sections of this book, namely philosophical issues in tourism education and experiential/active learning in tourism education, fit into these two identified issues. A synopsis of each chapter is provided next; and future directions for tourism education research are suggested.

The purpose of this paper is to synthesize and evaluate research on hospitality and tourism education in the past ten years (2005-2014) and to suggest directions for future inquiries.

From 13 hospitality and tourism journals, 644 full-length articles were reviewed. A multi-stage process was used to code and analyze each article by two analysts independently to ensure objectivity and accuracy. Two more researchers were involved in discussion to resolve differences in coding.

The analysis resulted in five distinctive meta-themes, grounded within 30 sub-themes. Observations are made in terms of teaching and learning, student development, curricula and programs, education environment and faculty development. Areas requiring further scholarly attention under each theme were identified.

This review provides an important reflection of the scholarly activities over the past decade on hospitality and tourism education, summarizes the current knowledge on various relevant concepts and offers avenues for future education research.

The library services we provide today are built on the skill, energy and vision of earlier generations of librarians; yet most of these pioneers remain unknown. Examines the career of Butler Wood, librarian at Bradford for 50 years, 41 of them as chief librarian. In addition to the successful development of a major municipal library, he developed art gallery and museum services; was a founder member and contributor to many literary, historical and cultural organizations; he influenced the development of reference and rural libraries; and he contributed to the growth of the library profession itself. An appreciation of this visionary scholar/ administrator can provide inspiration today.

The '85 Monsoon Season Expedition of our Senior Common Room Walking, Eating and Drinking Club was a little late starting. Any expedition to the source of the Pennine Way (PW) — in the footsteps of Alfred Wainwright and Tom Stephenson — is subject to unlooked for logistic difficulties. In our case it was that one of us, myself, could not start before lunch on Saturday; the full Academic Board, at its final meeting of term, had declined to allow us to close the Library on Saturdays‐in‐August. And so our first day consisted of a sortie from the railway station at Edale to the Youth Hostel, ditto.

The information presented in the paper may be used by librarians and interested parties to solidify and broaden their own thoughts and values on who they are as an instructor.

Through a survey of 200 employees working in five of the thirty establishments analysed in previous research about the microeconomic effects of reducing the working time (Cahier 25), the consequences on employees of such a reduction can be assessed; and relevant attitudes and aspirations better known.
